I diffuse for 5-10 minutes at full diffusion, then hit intermittent and let it run the rest of the time out on that mode to keep a nice soft clean grounding/uplifting fragrance going (especially nice when entertaining). The intermittent mode does not put out as heavy a mist but it serves what I need for our home using it the way I stated above. I do not like a continuous 'strong scent' but a good 5-10 min to fill the air and then an intermittent burst of scent is perfect. Your needs/wants may vary. I have another brand 500ml diffuser and the scents are non-existent (wasting EO's) long before the water it runs out, and I use a chart to determine how many drops needed per size of the diffuser (100, 250, 500). We have a large fairly open living/dining/kitchen space divided only by a bar sitting area. I may order another one to fully cover the 3 areas. I use good quality pure EO's. It has a good range of light colors, I leave it on the white light, matter of preference. My only wish is that it had a 6 hr timer but for a 250ml that is probably not practical. It looks nice and I hear no noise to speak of. I would recommend this unit.
