I have severe degenerative disc disease and the bottom of my spine has been fused. Basically have arthritis everywhere with both knees also replaced. The constant nerve pain can frequently result in horrific muscle spasms that are debilitating. While I have come to accept that some pain and the necessity for medication will be a constant, I am always searching for nonpharmaceticul means to lessen.
These salts are wonderful. They help with pain, stiffness and cramping. I have been a bath soaker with salts for years but these salts have been superior to other similarly priced ones on the market. The fragrance is divine and relaxing on its own. I have noticed a big difference in how much pain relief I obtain and with the help of tub jets, cramping muscles are also soothed.
I do wish they spoke more to the differences between epsom, dead sea and their "pacific air" salts in terms of therapy. I basically add a bit of plain epsom salts when using dead sea salts, but with these I did not have to do so. I purchased one of all three types so I can compare the amount of relief and see if there is a noticeable distinction. Unfortunately they sent me the epsom salt lavender instead of the dead sea salt lavender so I will use the other two while waiting to sort this out. I guess this will be a good gage of customer service and will update.
UPDATE: The customer service was excellent. A new bag of the dead sea salt lavender was shipped immediately and without charge. (Purchased directly from San Franciso Salt Co.)
As to the differences between Pacific Sea Salt, Epsom Salt and Dead Sea Salt I have now had numerous baths with all. I found all of them to be equally effective. I did notice that the Lavender Dead Sea Salts have a slightly different scent. You can smell the minerals as much as the lavender. I didn't find this to be unpleasant, it just wasn't as fragrant as the Epsom or Pacific Sea Salts in Lavender.
There is also a difference in the size of the salts. The finer grains ones I thought felt silky against the skin. They defiantly take less time to dilute into the bath water.
The Pacific Sea Salts Lavender in the small 2 and 5 pound bags were purple in color and the ones in larger bags are white. I assume the colorant is an additive which doesn't impact fragrance or at least I couldn't tell any difference between the fragrance of the lavender colored salts versus the white colored salts.
I did take a bath with oils one night just for a break and while my skin felt fabulous after and there was some lessening of aches and pains, it wasn't nearly as effective as baths taken with the salts in them.
The only other thing of note is that I have issues with wounds healing normally because of years of steroids taken for arthritis. I had three wounds on my arm caused by some monster bug bites in the wet fall, which had been forever in healing and two are now completely healed and the last one is better. Whether this is a result of the immersion in the salt water or just a lucky coincidence may be impossible to determine. Without question the salts reduced the "itchiness" one often gets when wounds heal.
In short I am VERY happy with the San Franciso Salt Company's products. I have had lavender, detox, plain dead sea salt, oatmeal and the one they call Summer Breeze. I have enjoyed them all. I find the lavender to be the most relaxing and fragrant.
